Department Area: Legal & Compliance

What made you apply for a Hayfin internship?

I was initially drawn to the internship because it offered an in-house opportunity to work across a variety of legal areas, including private funds, corporate, governance, compliance, and legal execution. This breadth of exposure was excellent for me as a recent graduate still exploring the opportunities within the industry. Additionally, the smaller team size provided the chance to take on more responsibilities and benefit from hands-on support and guidance from my colleagues.

What is your typical day to day?

A typical day would consist of running through tasks allocated by various team members. Once a task was completed, I would schedule time to review it with a colleague, which proved invaluable for receiving feedback and improving my skills. We also attended daily masterclasses, each introducing a different department within the business. These sessions were instrumental in enhancing my understanding of Hayfin’s operations and the integral role the legal team plays within the company.

Biggest take-away from internship experience?

This internship has developed my confidence as an aspiring lawyer, leaving me feeling more self-assured and determined to pursue a career in law.  I feel that I have grown professionally thanks to the support and guidance of my colleagues, who have taught me so much in such a short space of time. One aspect of the role I particularly enjoyed was the continuous learning it offered. This was a key takeaway that I took from a conversation I had with Jennifer Shen as she described that no matter how senior you become in the profession, you will never know it all and it is important to ask questions if necessary.
